The Magic of Kentish Opera
is a fabulous collection of spell-binding opera excerpts, fully
staged, choreographed and costumed, and all sung in English.
Our rehearsals are well under way and it's sounding magnificent
and looking great!
Here are some of the highlights - and you'll recognise the professional
soloists from previous productions:
Entrance of Iolanthe from G&S's operetta, fully staged, including
dialogue;
Magic Flute - Stefanie Kemball-Read sings the "Queen of
the Night" , and our men's chorus sing "To Isis";
Cosi fan Tutte - The Dorabella / Guglielmo Heart Duet sung by
Hakan Vramsmo and Ellie Pearson;
The glorious Intermezzo from Pagliacci;
Verdi's Othello - Opening Chorus;
Gounod's Romeo and Juliet - the Capulet aria with Stefanie as
Juliet and Hakan as her father;
Force of Destiny (another Verdi thriller) - tremendous items,
including the stirring "Rataplan";
Lehár's Merry Widow - "Gentleman No More" followed
by the gorgeous "Vilia", sung by Stefanie;
Don Giovanni - Champagne aria with Hakan as the dangerous Don;
Excerpts from Humperdinck's enchanting Hansel and Gretel with
Ellie and Stefanie;
Eugene Onegin - Waltz scene - Tchaikovsky's stirring dance music
with joyous chorus music.
So as you can see it is full of magical music: old favourites
interspersed with items that are maybe not so familiar, but all
written by the world's greatest opera composers. The Gala will
delight both opera afficionados and those still new to this genre.
The orchestra and singers will be conducted by Robyn Sevastos
and directed by Terry John Bates.
