Alice Harvey - Costume Assistant

‘I have been welcomed into Kentish Opera with open arms and it has been a privilege to meet so many lovely people that are passionate about performing and be able to help bring their individual characters to life on stage.

Kentish Opera has given me the opportunity to be involved within all aspects of costume department, from the essential preparations that happen in the lead up - alterations and fittings to ensure each character is perfect and every performer is comfortable - to those important jobs organising, dressing and checking performers are ready before they go on stage.

KO was my first introduction to opera. I have found it to be such an amazing performance genre to be involved with, particularly from a costume perspective, as the costumes have a great impact, depth and expression that echoes the incredible voices and music of the shows.

As a costumier with a preference for historical fashions and as a millinery apprentice, Kentish Opera costumes are a delight to work on, with productions presenting a range of different eras, silhouettes and styles. All performers, whether a principle or part of the main cast, are considered from head-to-toe; adorned with hats, jewellery and accessories to create beautiful layers, richness and finery, giving both the cast as a whole and each individual character interest and importance.’
