We're always looking for new members to join our chorus or backstage team.

We typically rehearse from January-May for our Spring show and September - October for our Autumn show.
Different shows have different requirements - some are mainly singing while others have roles for dancers, acrobats and circus entertainers.

You can join for one show or keep coming back - whatever you prefer...

We also always need help with backstage functions so if you prefer to be behind the scenes, we will still have ways for you to get involved.
This includes helping with props, costumes, scenery... We are currently looking for help with Stage Management and an Assistant Director for our spring 2024 show, Aida.

To express your interest, in any of these areas, please email our Chairman, Ian:

"The most fun I've had legally"

- Members of the Chorus
Meet our chorus!
Sometimes it's nice to know who might be there when you first turn up to a rehearsal, so here are a few of our current chorus members introducing themselves...
Name: Melissa Saunders

Part: Soprano/dancer

How did you become involved in KO? Jacqui & Pauline suggested I go along to a rehearsal. I was already singing with them with London Concert Chorus & I take ballet classes with Pauline. I’ve done a lot of musical theatre in the past so great to broaden my experience, develop my voice, meet new people & perform with KO. Also to wear some fabulous costumes!

Best KO moment: Head witch in Macbeth - the most I have ever had to do in one show & nerve-racking but learnt lots & worked with brilliant people 😊

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be? Elizabeth I - she achieved so much as a woman & queen at that time, had a fantastic line in dresses & accessories & I want the inside story on Dudley!

Hidden talent: I make fascinators & tiaras
Name: Ian Alexander

Part: Bass

How did you become involved in KO? First production in 1996 was a walk-on part as an Egyptian soldier (non-singing). Enjoyed the week and auditioned for chorus to do Turandot. Been in practically every production since!

Best KO moment: My highlight has to be as Captain Petrovich with a few solo lines during the ballroom scene in Onegin.

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be? My lunch would have to be with Nelson aboard the Victory just before Trafalgar.

Hidden talent: My hidden talent is probably best left hidden!! However, I do take part in archery and can hit the target with fair accuracy at 100 yds.
Name: Penny Pearce

Part: Second soprano

How did you become involved in KO? I became involved because I was desperate to get back into singing and performing. One of my oldest friends was already involved with the company, as were her parents. Alice now does marketing as well, but I’ve found my niche, bouncing around in the background.

Best KO moment: Hard to say! Sensually inhaling the manly scent of a toreador? Tripping and dropping an entire tray of glasses right before Act 1, Scene 1 of La Traviata? My woollen overskirt sliding down as I stood up in Carmen?

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be? Ovid

Hidden talent: Master ramen maker
Name: Phil Wallace

Part: Bass

How did you become involved in KO? Mark Fitzgerald used to come to see Surrey Opera's shows. I'd sung in their chorus since 2001. Mark mentioned that KO were doing Rigoletto, which I had always wanted to do. I came along and it was great. I've done 8 or 9 KO shows since then.

Best KO moment: I really enjoyed Eugene Onegin and Aida.

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be? A controversial choice: Wagner, or even Cosima Wagner. Although he has a reputation for having a rather nasty personality, I'd like to know what makes him tick (many artists were not very nice people after all).

Hidden talent: In my 60s I learned to solve the Rubik's cube in about 60 seconds, and for that I was interviewed by Aasmah Mir on Radio 4's Saturday Live programme.
Name: Jeremy Bell

Part: Bass

How did you become involved in KO? From working front of house and then being able to sing in a concert version of Faust (being able to sing from the score put me in familiar territory from singing in choirs) and also encouragement from Robyn, our Musical Director.

Best KO moment: Getting the cummerbund on to Escamillo successfully on all four nights of our recent performance of Carmen without it coming undone again!

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be? H.G. Wells

Hidden talent: Any talent is so well-hidden, I haven't found it yet!
Name: Sandy Higgins Bull

Part: Alto

How did you become involved in KO? I was introduced to Kentish Opera in 1984 after not singing for 20 years!

Best KO moment: There have been many special moments over the years, but one that comes to mind is my offstage scream in our recent production of Cavalleria Rusticana and the teasing from the men with fingers in their ears.

If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be?  I would have liked a dinner with Sir Philip Sidney at Penshurst Place. I spent my childhood playing with his descendants, Lord De Lisle's children, as my mother worked there.

Hidden talent: My hidden talent is being able to make do and utilise.
